A few questions
1. Where do we catch the cable car?
2. How long does it take?
3. Is it worth doing?
4. Is there someplace we should eat near the top?
Thank you!!

I just looked this up yesterday. You catch the funicular at Piazza Alcide de Gasperi, a 10-15 minute walk along the lakefront from the ferry docks. It costs just under seven euros for a round-trip ticket (assuming the website is up to date). As for questions 3 and 4, I hope to find out next month!
I haven't been there but need to manage it at some point, because there are over ten Art Nouveau villas up in Brunate. This is what I have in my notes:
Funicular Como-Brunate, Piazza de Gasperi 4. Departure point is a wooden/brick building between two restaurants. Funicular goes 2200 ft above lake. Surrounding trails offer fabulous views of the Alps. Departures 2 to 4 times per hour between 6 AM and 10:30 PM. (Those are probably summer hours, because that's when I travel.) 7-minute trip. €3.60 one way. Brunate is a quiet hilltop village with excellent restaurants. Steep, stony 30-min walk up to San Maurizio.
The funicular carriages are modern but have Art Nouveau interiors.
Thank you both very much. Let’s hope some folks who have done the trip chime in as well.
I went up there in 2017 and don't have memories of it being a wow experience. Another day we went on the ferry on the lake and spent time in Bellagio and that was a better experience.
Good to know. It’s one thing on a list of things. We already have a boat reserved for one day of our trip.
I've been there. I'd say unless you have a desire to eat at one of the Brunate restaurants, there's no real reason to go.
Thank you. We will skip it.
