cab or train to Fiumicino airport hotel?

It appears to be 26 euro to take the train from Rome to the airport. Then we'd have an 11 minute walk to the hotel - lugging carry-ons. Cabs are 50 euro to the airport, yes?

So, the "conveinece fee" to take a cab instead of the train is 24 euros... Right?

Is that worth it? Seems so.

Thoughts?

For two the train is €28, plus whatever it costs to get to the hotel.

Fixed taxi fare for central Rome is €48.

I have a question to which I don't know the answer. I would assume that the flat rate set between the airport and within the walls of Rome would be just that - to the airport.

I wonder if Rome to a hotel near the airport would fall under the airport flat rate or if the taxi would need to use the meter? Or come up with some other, higher, figure because the destination isn't actually in the airport?

I don't know - but I wonder.

and how will you get from the hotel to the airport in the morning?

This decision is really a personal preference and should be based on your ability to manage your bags. If you feel the convenience is worth it no one needs to convince you.

My experience is from several years ago, so things may (or may not) have changed. However, we have stayed at hotels in Fiumicino a couple of times. As I recall, we were charged €25 for the very short ride to and from the airport both times. I suggest you clarify, with your hotel, and with the cab company, if the flat rate applies only to the airport or to hotels near the airport. Don’t assume that a hotel that advertises “airport shuttle” means the ride is free.
