Cab estimate rome

We head to Roma Termini in the morning, need to go to next hotel at piazza navona. Was thinking about looking like a tourist and drag bags from station to hotel to drop off bag. Can anyone give me a good estimate for cab fare termini to navona? Versus the time to walk. We are also thinking about not taking the extra
hike time and effort. Saving energy for St. Peters line. Thanks for you help.

The walk will take at least a half hour. You can use worldtaximeter.com to find out an approximation of the fare.

Walk is 30-45 minutes.

Cab is Euro 15.00 or so

Bus 40 (or 64) to Largo Argentina will shorten the walk considerably and cost Euro 1.50 each.

Are you arriving to Roma Termini with the train coming from the airport?
If that is the case, considering you have luggage, it's better to take the taxi directly from the airport to your hotel. It's a flat €48 fare from FCO to the city center.

If you are not coming from the airport, for example if you are coming from Florence, I would not recommend walking, especially with luggage. It's a very long walk and the taxi from the station to the Centro Storico won't cost you more than €15.

I like to contact hotels directly and ask them. They often will have extra tips to offer as far as navigating (it's easier if you come from this street, or look for the blue awning, etc). It may be difficult to communicate those tips with language barriers but not always. And I will print out the email with the price estimate in case I need it to show to a driver. Even with a language barrier, when they see the email with the name of the hotel, the airport name/train station name, and the price, they get the drift. But I agree with the 15 euro estimate.

My taxi experience in Rome has been 99% positive. There are two places I notice that drivers repeatedly try to increase rates
1. Termini- make sure you go to the actual taxi line and not to other cars or people offering private drivers. That being said, last trip to Rome, the drivers in the taxi line were still trying to tell me a 10 euro ride would be 25-30 euro. I was able to communicate that I knew what the price should be and made sure they turned the meter on. This solved the problem.

  1. Within Vatican City (I just mention this in case you want a taxi after St. Peters)-Unless there is an extra charge I don't know about if you pick up a taxi within Vatican city, I have had several instances where drivers try to charge double. So I just walk outside the city and find another taxi, no problem.

Enjoy your trip!

Take a cab from Termini to your hotel. It's soooo worth it when you have luggage.

A few days ago we went to the taxi line at Termini and got one to our hotel off Piazza Navona. We got a great narrated tour on the way to the hotel. The fare on the meter was 17.50 and he knocked a euro off the price. It was well worth paying for the taxi, because we then had energy to go out exploring for a few hours.

Thanks for the website...I entered where we wanted to go and it came back around 10 euro. I printed a copy to have with me just in case.

My 2 cents: Our first trip to Rome we knew nothing, I mean nothing. As we walked out of Termini and hailed a Taxi, a llittle man came up and said he would take us ... We said OK. Then he pulled up a donkey-cart, only there was no donkey. He did the pulling. He loaded our luggage on it, and we proceeded to walk the streets until we got to our hotel. He narrated along the way, pointing out things of interest. I still get a big grin when I remember us walking down the streets, not the sidewalks, following this little man and listening to his tour presentation.

He loaded our luggage into the hotel elevator, took two trips up,

That is probably my most memorable Rome experience.

Following on Kristen's suggestion of contacting the hotel, be sure to check the hotel's website. These days, many have directions for getting there from train stations, airports, major roads, etc. These directions don't always give all the options, but it's a great starting point.

I just want to emphasize Roberto's point; if you're coming from the airport, take a taxi all the way, since for two or more people it will be cheaper than train fare from FCO to Termini plus taxi fare, and easier as well. Getting back to Termini, you may feel comfortable enough to take the bus, but also consider the luxury of having your hotel call for a taxi. You'll pay a bit extra (the cab starts the meter when it gets your call, so it adds some euros to the fare), but it's very nice to get door to door service, as opposed to schlepping your bags to a taxi stand or bus stop.
