Ca’Macana in Venice

Hi all,

I'm looking at the two different mask making class options at Ca'Macana (ABC or Mini-course, see link below). Obviously there is a big price difference, but I am drawn to the private (English) one for our family (2 kids, 10 and 6) but I don't know what we'll do with 8 masks. Especially since we're traveling light and all. Maybe I just sign the kids up and my husband and I watch?

Any experience with Ca'Macana and/or any opinions, ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

My mother and I did the 1-hour ABC course and really enjoyed it. It wasn't a private course but I don't remember more than maybe one other tourist there at the time. We thought that communication was good.

Several papier mache masks can be a bit fragile but not too heavy, so consider mailing them home through the Italian postal service. The post office can be a bit of an adventure. They usually sell packing boxes, although those that I recall in the Italian post office were not as sturdy as in other countries. You could dumpster dive some extra cardboard to make it less crushable. Also fill the box full with whatever packing material you have.

Also, they encourage you through the steps, but I did not feel like they would kick you out after precisely an hour, if you were finishing up your work.

We actually just walked into Ca'Macana one early afternoon and our two daughters were able to make their own masks while my husband and I enjoyed a couple glasses of wine at a bar right across from it. Absolute must stop at Ca' Macana my girls treasure their beautiful masks!
