C-19 Rates

In general, are C-19 rates climbing? We are 45 days away from our trip and concerned... Everything is booked and I am having anxiety.

We arrive in Venice then train to Florence then fly to Sardinia and fly to Rome for our return flight to New York.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. TIA

On average in Italy there are currently approximately 100,000 new confirmed positive cases a day and 100-140 Covid deaths daily. I noticed that nearly nobody masks anymore, even indoor. The only exception was on public transportation where it is mandatory. There are lots of positive people around, many asymptomatic. Some don’t even know it. If you suspect to be positive while there, you can try a self test or go to a pharmacy and do one rapid test for €22 (price fixed by the government for non residents) or for €15 if you are an Italian resident with the National Health card. Self tests cost €10 at any pharmacy in Italy. Cases are surging, but apparently not the hospitalizations, that means for most people it’s just a cold or nothing at all.

People are traveling this year. It may be at pre pandemic numbers. In 2020 people thought cancel until next year. 2021 people said cancel until next year. Now 2022 people are tired of not traveling as nothing has changed. Here we are 2.5 years later and covid is still around. By Christmas we will be on Omicron B7 next year B10 I don't see it ever going away. Covid is here to stay. It' up to you if you feel comfortable traveling. Only you can make that decision. Will it be better next year? Maybe, maybe not. I am traveling first two weeks of September. What I'm having anxiety about, is flight cancelations and lost luggage not Covid.

as a note...a previous commenter mentioned "mandatory" masking on public transportation. I am well into my second month in Italy and many, many people on all forms of public transportation (trains, busses, trams) totally ignore the announcement on every train that a mask is required. I am currently on day 10 of my covid quarantine...even though I wore a mask on all public transportation I was unlucky. It's a chance no matter where you go these days.
