I will be flying into Milan (MXP) Int'l airport and hoping to board a high speed train to Venice with in a few hours. I would like to buy my round trip tickets online, however I'm concerned that if I buy my tickets for a specific time and my flight is delayed, what happens to the train tickets I bought. Any one know the answer to that?
Sure, the answer is simple - you lose the ticket especially if it is a discount ticket with limited (economy ticket) or no exchange (super economy) provision. If it is a base fare ticket then you have an hour after the train has left the station to exchange for another ticket. This is the main reason for the standard recommendation that you do not purchase an advance ticket for your day of arrival. Sometimes you can get a super economy tickets that is so cheap - 10,15 Euro - that you don't mind losing $20 if you miss the train.
And remember to add at least an hour from the time you clear immigrations and customs to the Centrale train station via the train.
Thanks-very helpful.
Are you still headed to Villeneuve-Loubet ? Venice is in the wrong direction. You are really adding to your train travel. Have you considered coming home from Nice?
We are now landing in Milan and traveling to Venice for 2 days and then to Lake Como for 2 days before going to France.
