Buying train tickets - bimbi gratis vs. super economy?? How to buy for group of 6?

Hello, We are a group of six (three kids under 12, two adults, one senior) buying train tickets for April 2017. I looked online today and a few of our dates are releasing but I confess I can't figure out the best option. Can anyone offer me guidance?

Issue #1. We need six tickets but can only buy five at once. So do we need to split the group to add a kid to various options? What's the best way to do it - and does it depend on the next question?

Issue #2...which option?

For example, I looked at buying for two adults and three kids.
Option A: 2nd class, super economy, 69.80 E.
Option B: Bimbi Gratis: 98.00 E.

If I buy Super Economy, is that 69.80 per person or for my whole group of 5?
If I buy Bimbi Gratis, is that 98.00 per adult or for the whole family of 5?

Any reason why I would want one over the other?

Is it worth it to upgrade to premium for 10 more E?

Thank you in advance!!

Going from where to where and when?

The Bimbi gratis offer is valid for groups of 2 to 5 people with at least 1 under the age of 15. The adults must travel on the full price fare (called "base"), the children are free.

Will need tickets for each of these:
Milan to Venice (I probably won't buy this leg in advance because I don't know what time we'll be out of the airport)
Venice to Florence
Florence to Rome
Rome to Milan

Those are prices for the total number of people that you entered in the search, making it relatively easy to choose the cheapest option from the chart in any class of service. The only reason not to choose the cheapest option would be if you weren't ready to accept the no-changes restrictions.

You have 2 possibilities, the first is:

  1. Purchase 5 tickets at the cheapest total price available, it may be bimbi gratis or 5 SuperEconomy or Economy tickets; if you are not going to change your plans it doesn't really matter
  2. Note down train number, departure date and time, car and seat numbers
  3. Make a new search on trenitalia.com/tcom-en
  4. Find the same train you've already purchased 5 tickets for (check twice date and train number!) and click
  5. Flag the cheapest fare available
  6. Flag the "choose the seat" option
  7. Click the red "Continue" button
  8. Select the others' car number from the drop down menu and the closest seat (if you really love 'em, otherwise you could unluckily find only a not so close seat...)

Plan B:

  1. Use italiarail.com that will sell 6 cheap tickets "mixing" different fares
