Buying Train Tickets at Milan Airport (MXP)

Quick question about train tickets.
We are arriving at MXP at 12:15pm, then I plan to go to Milan Central and on to Venice SMN. Can & should I purchase tickets for that trip at the airport or should I wait until I get to Milan Central?

Thank you! Katie

Once in the MXP train station you now know you schedule so go ahead and buy the Venice ticket. There is small grocery store in Central, sandwich shop, etc., so you might add a little extra time if you wan to purchase some food for the Venice. Also get the track number when you buy the ticket but double check at the train station because track number can change.

If you will have a working smart phone with you, you can buy tickets on your phone, using the Trenit app, as soon as your plane's wheels touch the ground and you can use your phone. Of course, you won't know how long it will take from then until you get through immigration, baggage claim, etc. to the MXP train station, but you can at least buy the tickets for Venice once you are on the train from the airport. Trenit also shows train arrival times and delays plus track numbers; I found it very helpful.

Just traveled through Milan Centralle train station and it was A ZOO. Anything you can do to buy your ticket anywhere else would be a plus. It was Thursday afternoon and it was crawling with people.

Thank you all for the information! I will try to buy them as far in advance once I arrive.

One minor point to clarify....

You referred to Venice SMN. I assume you mean Venezia Santa Lucia and not Firenze Santa Maria Novella? It's important to specify the correct stations when buying tickets in Italy, using the Italian names for those stations.

Thank you Ken, yes my bad. As you can probably tell Florence is after Venice, hence my typo. But thank you for clarifying, that could've gone very wrong for me if I wasn't aware and no one mentioned it.
