buying train tickets all at the same time

I read somewhere here, but can't find it now, how someone made a list of all the train tickets he wanted and gave it to the ticket window and got his tickets all at once.

What I need to know is do you have to have a time for these advanced tickets? or just the date?

I had planned on buying them one leg at a time, as soon as I arrived at my destination I would buy the tickets for the next leg.

Which works best? Mainly, do I need a time.

thnx

No need and buying all at once allow no flex to your plans.

It depends on the train and what you are trying to do. If a seat reservation is required then you need a specific time/train. If it is open then you just need day and some tickets are just open from any time or day. All high speed trains require reservations. Local and regional - may or may not. And some provide an option of reservation with an additional fee. If you have a non-reservation ticket it is absolutely critical that the ticket is validated -- time stamped at the yellow boxes.

Once you purchase any ticket on a ICPlus or Eurostar-class train, you are locked into a date, time and seat reservation. I see several Eurostar and ICPlus possibilities. There are a few runs where the train will be a Regionale. These are the locals. No seat reservations are permitted so you are OK there.

Thanks. I guess I will wait until the day before leaving to buy those high-speed tickets. I think that would work.

And, everyone, thanks again.
