Buying Tickets for Trenitalia Trains in Italy Online - purchase without registering

It took me a couple hours of trying to get their site to work so figured it would be helpful to post how I got it to work.

The webpage wouldn't let me use the purchase without registering option. It wouldn't let you click on that option.

I was unable to registering with Trenitalia with an address that is not Italy. I tried many things and couldn't get around not having a VAT / Tax Code. It gave the message Error code: 99 Tax code wrong.

After several hours of trying different things. I tried it in a different browser (Google Chrome). It worked right away.

Apparently the Trenitalia website does not work properly with Microsoft Edge.

Hopefully this post will save some people the frustration I went through.

p.s. - Have a good trip!

Good tips! Www.trainline.eu is a good resource, too, with no additional fees.

Sorry to be contrary , I just booked eight trips for the coming Autumn on Trenitalia on Microsoft Edge . I am registered with the company ( I live in New York ) . Hard to tell why you had a problem , but glad to see it worked out .

fyi for others... On Trenitalia web site, I find it helpful to register as a user before buying tix. Once you are a registered user, it becomes easy to view / change / reprint your train tix from anywhere or while traveling. Note that if you find it easier to use an Italy address when registering, feel free to do so; just use the address of an Italy hotel or whatever. The street address isn't used for anything; all correspondence and ticket access is online or via email. Enjoy your trip!

jnottia, does Edge have an auto-traslation option that you could have turned on?
This is the first time I hear about problems with Microsoft browser.

Bob, They want an italian address to send you the Cartafreccia fidelity card.

I've been using the pdf version of my Cartafreccia card for years, today Trenitalia is so annoying about people having the real one in their pockets because they are desperately trying to change the Cartafreccia into a credit card.

I suspect Trenitalia dreams of the Cartafreccia to be used like MasterCard at Malpensa turnstiles, but without MasterCard taking its slice of the pie.
