Buying TGV train tickets in Milan?

We will be leaving for Milan in 2 days so don't have time to buy TGV train tickets ahead via Raileurope. Does anyone know if there is a Raileurope office in Milan? We heard we have to go to a Raileurope "place" to buy any tickets. We are trying to by tickets from Turin to Chambery for the following week. Thank you!

OK, let's start from the beginning. "RailEurope" does not run any trains. They are a consortium of train companies that sells tickets (usually at marked up prices). So, even if there were a "RailEurope place" physically in Italy selling tickets, you wouldn't want to use it. If you are buying tickets in person, you buy them from train stations, ticket offices, or travel agents (the last often have a fee for this). Trains are operated by various national operators; sometimes there's one national company (France has SNCF) and sometimes there's competition (Italy has Ferrovie dello Stato and its new competition, ItaloTreno). Trains that cross borders (like yours) can be operated by either country, or by some other entity (like Thalys, whose trains connect France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands). What you want to do (in this case, and in almost all cases) is buy your ticket from the website of its operator. If you are taking a TGV, that's SNCF. Use http://www.tgv-europe.com/ and choose Great Britain as your country. Refuse all offers to be redirected to Rail Europe. Make sure the ticket you buy has the print-at-home option. Then print it out, and on the train, show the printout with your passport (at least that's how it worked a few years ago; the e-ticket systems often change, so follow whatever directions come with your ticket). If it says you need A4 paper, don't worry: 8½ x 11 works fine. If you cannot print it out, don't buy the ticket from TGV-Europe. The other options will be "pick up in French rail station" and you won't be in France to do this, so you'll be stuck. In that case, you may have to wait until you get to Turin to do this. But I just did a dummy booking, and it looks like this ticket can be printed at home.

As of 3/2 at 10:30pm, I can see TGV runs from Torino (Turin Porta Susa) that I could purchase online right now and print out at home right now. It's an E-ticket. This is not RailEurope nor does RailEurope have this service or an office in Italy. Go to www.tgv-europe.com. Put in Turin and Chambery for the date you want. Select an early time in the day so that most runs appear. In the Gray "Book Your Train Ticket box, select Great Britain or Canada as your Ticket Collection Country. Don't worry. You don't have to go there to get your ticket. If you select USA, the website will switch you to RailEurope which you do not want. Proceed with the purchase, select your fare and then select the magenta Outward Journey. Confirm the purchase and in the next window, you should see your E-ticket option under "Choose How to Collect Your Ticket". Here's a link to see what it looks like. You may need a Visa approved by Verified by Visa or a MasterCard approved with MasterCard Securecode. You can apply for either of these online. http://gyazo.com/9da154fa07d0bfb9a0068db7323dcd58

Do you know if we can buy our TGV tickets at Porta Sousa in Torino? We were planning to wait until we get to Italy until we purchase any tickets since our itinery is not completely set. There must be a way to purchase tickets somewhere in person. Thanks again. Becky

Since you will be taking a SNCF TGV, there is bound to be a SNCF ticket office at the Porta Susa station.
