Buying Soccer Tickets for Inter Milan Game...Where/When?

We are ending our trip to Italy with two days in Milan (because we fly out of Milan on the 3rd morning). Was thinking of spending the first day seeing the Last Supper and the Duomo. Would like to spend the 2nd day enjoying a soccer game at San Siro. Inter Milan will be playing...Has anyone seen a professional soccer game in Milan? What is the likelihood we will be able to obtain tickets? It is my understanding that we will not be able to purchase tickets until 1 week prior and that we can purchase them at Banca Populare Di Milano...is that only in Milan? Can we purchase them online or at other banks in Italy?

Here are some other official outlets: http://www.inter.it/en/biglietti/acquista.html For tourists it's often easier to purchase tickets at a resale site like this: http://tinyurl.com/3pkuy35 As long as Inter isn't playing a big rival like AC Milan or Juventus, there are usually lot of tickets available as San Siro is a very large stadium.
Be aware that the section with the cheapest seats in the highest part of the stadium, have very few bathrooms (squat toilets), and no food/drink concessions...so it's not a family friendly area. Be sure to take your passports to the stadium as they often check IDs at the gate. If you have time the day before the match, the stadium tour and team museums are also very interesting.

Thanks so much Michael. Can you suggest which area of the stadium would be good seating but not too expensive? Are there concession areas and toilets located elsewhere in the stadium? Lastly, I haven't gone on the sites you mentioned yet, but perhaps you know, is it possible to purchase the tickets ahead of time or do we have to wait until the week prior? I would love to know it is a done deal before we leave...

You're welcome. I've only ever purchased tickets to those cheap seats, so I'm not certain which levels have the better amenities Hopefully someone else can chime in. Forgot to mention....there is an official Inter Box Office store located at the Galleria, across from the Duomo.
Tickets to the general public go on-sale a week ahead of time. But season ticket holders, and members of the club can purchase tickets way in advance which makes the resale site very handy.

Another question...I noticed on the resale sites that you can purchase tickets to the home team side or away. Most of the tickets are located on the away side. Do you think it matters for tourists like us?

The last time I was at San Siro, the visitors section was located on the top tier as I described above...so it would best to sit elsewhere.

Wow Ric. Thanks for your input. We would have loved to see an AC Milan game but unfortunately they won't be playing when we are in town...

Probably just as well, they're having a rough year. Injuries are killing us.

Perhaps you can tell me about the seating. I have read that there are no concessions at San Siro...that is fine, for an 8:45 p.m. game we will have eaten already. Are there bathrooms located on all levels. Are the fans separated so that Inter fans will sit on one side and the other team will sit opposite? Since we are tourists and both teams are Italian, I suppose it does not really matter which side we sit on...We want to see the game well (especially the kids), how far up can we sit and still see well? Are the end side (as opposed to the long side) seats any good? Lastly, how long will the game last? We leave for home the next morning and I am trying to see if this will be too late of an evening to manage...

Hi Lisa, I see that Michael Schneider did come along and answer your question! As for how late the game might end, a soccer match lasts 90 minutes with a 10-minute half-time break. Add the time needed to leave the stadium among a big crowd. It will be a long night, but it just might the experience of your boys' lives - so perhaps it might be worthwhile sacrificing some rest and try to sleep on the flight back? For your other questions, perhaps there are Inter Milan fan forums online where you could ask? Or even AC Milan forums, if you're asking about seating at the San Siro stadium.
