We would like to go to the opera either at La Scala in Milan or La Fenice in Venice in September 2011. Does anyone have good advice on how best to purchase tickets, as well as whether they will be available at all? We are not averse to paying a broker if it will result in great tickets and a minimum of hassle.
Good question and a marginal answer. I would goggle both Milano and La Scala and see what ticket info you could find. There is ticket office at La Scala. When we tried to get ticket a few years on the day of the performance it was sold out.
You can get tickets for La Scala on their website. Don't know how convenient it is as my trip isn't until 2012.
I read one account that complained that the La Scala website would bog down and seem to crash when tickets first went on sale for a performance. Once it got back up, the cheap tickets were all gone. I think you won't have trouble as long as you're willing to pay a broker. I was interested in cheap seats, since we're not big opera fans, and figured out it was a lost cause.
