Buying lace in Venice

My mother has requested that I look for her a lace shawl that she admired that was purchased in Venice. Perhaps this is like looking for a 'needle in a haystack', but if anyone could recommend a particular shop in Venice or even elsewhere in Italy, that would be great.
Thanks

Burano 40 minutes from Venice is all about making lace.
Vaporetto Lines 12 and 14 from Venice's Fondamenta Nuove take you to Burano. Items will be pricey since they'll be hand made.

Make sure the lace you buy is made in Burano - lots of cheap imports of glass and lace in Venice.

Mark,
you`ll find lots of imported/cheap imitations in Burano as well as in Venice. When i was in Burano last summer a small handmade authentic Burano lace handkerchief was 40 euros. As mentioned above, a shawl will be pricey (extremely pricey if handmade in Burano)!

I've always remembered something my guidebook (not Rick Steves) said about Belgium when I went in 2002 (paraphrasing): "Most lace for sale in Belgium is machine made in France or hand made in Thailand. If you want lace hand made in Belgium, be sure that's what you're getting - and be prepared to pay a lot for it." While most cheap stuff is probably made in China these days, and we're talking about Italy and not Belgium, I'm sure the same principles apply. If it's cheap, it's not made in Italy, and if it's hand made in Italy, it's going to be EXPENSIVE.
