Buying cuff links in Florence

The attorney I work for did some pro bono work for me recently, and I thought I’d get him a thank-you gift when I’m on the Best of Europe tour. I latched onto the idea of cuff links, as he wears French cuffs at least three times a week. I thought perhaps Florence would be a good place to look … ? I would think that prices on the Ponte Vecchio would be higher than elsewhere in the city, but I’ll only have an afternoon to shop so don’t want to go traipsing around town comparing prices. Has anyone bought jewelry (cuff links or otherwise) on the Ponte Vecchio? Were the prices ridiculous when compared to the quality of the merchandise? Are the PV merchants generally considered reputable and honest? Thanks for any feedback.

Teresa,

I love the Ponte Vecchio. I have my 10th anniversary and 20th anniversary rings we purchased there. You have to look. there is everything from the cheap garrish to very nice elegant. The quality of my two rings is excellent. Both have been appraised higher than what we spent.

Do be sure you tell your credit card company that you are going to Italy.

I can recommend Torrini (torrini.com). I don't know if they carry cufflinks, however. One of the longest family owned businesses in the world - since 1369. Very reputable. High quality. Customer oriented. Not gimicky. Conveniently located near the Duomo. Go to their website for directions and other info.

Thanks, Kay. Hey, if they don't have cuff links, maybe I can find something shiny for myself! ;-)
