Buying a walking stick in Venice

I am flying into Venice and the first thing I need to do is buy a walking stick/ hiking pole for walking around town. Does anyone know of a hiking or sporting good store in Venice?
Thank you!

There may be one - but I've never seen one.

You may be able to find one of those stores more easily in Mestre.

You may be able to find something at the Coin but I really have no idea. I'd never noticed a walking/hiking/sports department - it like most stores in Venice is very small.

You could buy it online and have it shipped to your hotel. Let them know it’s coming so they’ll keep an eye out for it.

You’ve probably considered these alternatives:
1. Buy and take a collapsible walking stick, that will fit inside your bag; or
2. Buy and take a cane that will work as a walking stick, and use it as you get on and off your flights.
I would imagine you could find something in Venice, or maybe Mestre, but it would be a shame to take much time seeking one out.

Thank you everyone. I think am going to try to carry a folding walking stick in my carry on. It is an inexpensive one so if TSA takes it, I won't be out too much. I have had too many bags lost or delayed in the past to want to check a bag on the way to a trip. I have flown with the folding walking stick domestically and, so far, never had a problem. But.....never know. I found a place that shows walking sticks in their photos on their website. It is called Venice Sport Shop. Just across the Rialto Bridge from the area where we are staying.
I appreciate all your ideas! Thank you.

Yes, TSA allows "canes" to be carried on or packed as checked luggage. There is a distinction between canes as a mobility assisting device and trekking poles with sharp tips. Trekking poles are not allowed as a carry-on.

Screening in Standard Lanes

Aids: Walkers, crutches, canes or other mobility aids and devices
must undergo X-ray screening. A TSA officer will inspect the item if
it cannot fit through the X-ray. Notify the TSA officer if you need to
be immediately reunited with the device after it is screened by X-ray.

Screening in TSA Pre✓® Lanes

Aids: Walkers, crutches, canes or other mobility aids and devices
must undergo X-ray screening. A TSA officer will inspect the item if
it cannot fit through the X-ray. Notify the TSA officer if you need to
be immediately reunited with the device after it is screened by X-ray.
TSA officers will resolve positive explosives tests using other
screening methods, including a pat-down and inspection of your
property.

Note that sword canes are not allowed.

And as always, TSA agents have a lot of discretion to allow or not allow an item through security.

The final decision rests with the TSA officer on whether an item
is allowed through the checkpoint

Hi tab,

You've received some considerations. If you would like to keep in the back of your mind another suggestion, there is a durable, light-weight metal, folding cane manufactured by the company, Carex. It has a soft cushioned, derby-style handle with a wrist strap. It comes with its own plastic carrying case.

These can be found at Walmart, Walgreens, Rite Aid and pharmacies like that.

it is allowed by domestic TSA and international security. if you want to save space, you do not have to put the cane inside your carry-on - you can "strap it" to the outside of the bag or just carry it fully extended or in its case.

Just a thought. I understand you are aware of the possible ramifications of bringing a walking stick. Ultimately, it will be up to the security agent.
