Buying a TIM SIM card in Italy

Has anyone recently bought a TIM SIM card in Italy? I understand you can buy airtime starting at €5, but how much does it cost for the initial SIM chip to start with, or is that included? We can get it here for $40 which includes some air time, but I hear that it turns out cheaper to just buy it there. Anyone know where the TIM stores are in Rome, or how to find one near airport or RR stations? Do we need a TIM store at all or do the tobacco shops sell the SIMs as well as the airtime?

I have a TIM SIM card, but don't recall how much it cost to get it initially a couple years ago. I do remember that it wasn't very expenseve--$40 is pricey, but you say that you get some airtime with it. Remember--it will usually be cheaper to buy these things in Italy than here. I was in Italy again in May and went to the TIM store on the "balcony" area just above the main floor of the Termini and reactivated my card for e5 and also got e5 of airtime included. I've always found the people at that particular location to be very helpful. Not all of them speak English, so if you don't speak Italian be ready with your phrasebook.
