Anyone know where I can buy a suitcase in the CT? I can't recall a place, but then again, I wasn't looking for one.
We're backpacking and our last stop is Monterosso. I want to buy a suitcase there to load up on things I want to bring home (wine).

you may be better off bringing a good sized compact duffel - REI.com sells them in various sizes and they fold up to a few oz. - some even have a small toiletry kit free that can hold the whole bag folded up! Then use your pack or this bag as carry on for those goddies!
That's what I did last year... but keep in mind, we can't carry on wine anymore! I was hoping to buy a small standard suitcase to pack up with wine and other breakable things.
You can only bring so much wine home without having to pay duty. Maybe you should look into the cost of shipping it home and if the store you plan to buy it from can pack and ship it for you.
I don't buy much stuff. Our kids bought a collapsable rolling duffle from a street vendor in Rome or Florence for their treasures and checked that on the flight home. I always pack about a quarter roll of duct tape (folded) for emergency repairs. The bag looked a little flimsy, so I reinforced it with the tape.
We stayed in Vernazza. I don't recall anyone selling luggage but really didn't look. Monterosso is considerably bigger so I'm sure there will be someone selling bags there.
La Spezia is the shopping town for people living in the CT. It is larger than the 5 towns and has a variety of stores. On Fridays there is a gigantic street market. La Spezia is where I would go when shopping for a suitcase.
It's MUCH more expensive to ship the wine back. Also- can't ship into NJ. You can bring back 2 bottles each- but on several trips I've brought back more and was willing to pay the duty tax which is minimal, and basically not worth their time at customs to charge you for it!
I stayed in Monterosso and didn't remember luggage being sold- I'm going to email my hotel and check. Yes, I could try La Spezia- just thought maybe someone ran into the same predicament.
Thanks!
Just buy a RS folded Hide Away Tote...we always take one (last year we took two) for bringing back gifts and for whatever overflow my wife manages to cause...(she just had to buy those boots in Florence)
