I try to buy train tickets from Venice to Riomaggiore and from Assisi to Sorrento. I got stuck at the registration once for the Venice trip and several time when I try to search again the site shown nothing is available. I was not successful for Assisi to Sorrento either. This is for September trip. Is it too early or I did not know how to use the web site.
Thanks for any suggestion.
It's too early for the regional trains. For the Freccia high speed trains you should be able to book but only between major cities. From Venice to Florence, from Rome to Naples, or Florence to Rome to Naples. Everything else won't show up until about a month before. If you look for the same day of the week in June you'll get a good idea of the schedules on the regional lines.
To get from Assisi to Sorrento you need to travel to Naples first than transfer to a local train line, the Circumvesuviana.
Assisi to Naples involves a combination of regional, and/or IC trains as well as a fast train from Rome to Naples. You are looking at a total trip about 4 + hours plus an hour transit time from Naples to Sorrento.

You could buy the fast train portion of your trip (Venice to Florence and Rome to Naples) 120 days in advance and buy a deeply discounted tickets and then purchase the regional tickets once in Italy.
discounted tickets have restrictions, so be aware of that.
Thanks Robert and Holly, so I should buy the tickets now from Venice to Florence and from Rome to Naples then buy the regional train when I get to Italy? I just want to check that I should be able to buy without register as It required a local address in Italy.
Thanks
Yes, buy the regional tickets in Italy.
If you are 120 days from travel, you can buy on-line for the faster, more expensive trains. Only buy on-line if are sure of dates and times, because super economy tickets are non-refundable and can't be changed. Economy tickets can be changed before departure but you must pay the difference between what you paid and the full (base) price.
You don't need to register to buy on-line. Once you select your desired time and date, the next screen has a summary of your ticket info, and includes carriage number and seat number. Half way down the page you will see "contact buyer-required" and then click on the button for "non registered user".
I would also recommend you contact your credit card company before you book to alert them of an impending charge. Once the charge goes through, you will receive an email with all the details plus a PNR code. I used my gmail account and got the email very quickly.
