We will be in Venice in early October & would prefer to buy our tickets last minute in person (despite the probable wait time) as we want to see how clear the weather will be.
So my question is: does anyone know if it's possible to buy tickets in person on site ? (We are willing to risk the chance that time slots might be fully booked by a large group. )

We did it in early June 2022. We just lined up before it opened and I think it took us about 15 min. In line before we went up. Usually an early start will avoid the tour groups. Later on the lines got substantially longer. We also took the vaparetto over to San Giorgio Maggiore and went up in the church bell tower. There were fabulous views and the wait was only about 5 min. because the elevator is small.
