Buy Rome-Florence High Speed Train Tix in Advance?

Hi,

Arriving in Rome on a Saturday morning at 8:30AM in late-September. Need a train from Rome to Florence upon arrival. Would prefer high speed rail. Best to buy tickets in advance or when we arrive? Not really concerned about small, incremental savings. Only concerned about availability of last-minute seats on high speed trains and the possibility of needing to change reserved tickets if flight is delayed or if arrival at FCO is delayed by immigration/customs/etc.

Thank You,
Ben

Best not to buy in advance the day your flight arrives, in case of flight delays. Train availability is not something to worry about, as there are several trains per hour along that route.

Buy when you arrival. Too much risk the other way. Even a changeable ticket has to be exchanged within 90 minutes of the missed train departure. Most likely you will need to take the L Express to Termini to catch your train to Florence. So buy when you get there.
