Business Class RT to Rome?

Suggestions to find best price business class to Rome...?

Has anyone used some of the sites like Thrifty Traveler Premium flights; ASAP Tickets; Airfarewatchdog; booking.com; Trivago to successfully find decent (discounted?) business class RT to Rome? Any suggestions other than keep checking the ITA site?? Thanks, all.

Be careful when using third party sites. You may save a few dollars but if you have to cancel there may be problems. When COVID shut everything down last year, people who had tickets from 3rd parties had more problems getting refunds or credits. The third parties are notorious for having little or no service after purchase.

Take a look at Condor. You have to fly through Frankfurt but the prices are attractive.

I see from your other post you are leaving from Miami. I have flown Bus. Class from Miami and found that arrival in Madrid is the cheapest. From Madrid you can get over jet lag and then fly anywhere in Europe very reasonably. Usually American and Iberia are the cheapest. There are no non-stops to Rome. It is also way to early to shop for airfare for next October. Prices fluctuate a lot over time. I usually book about 3-4 months out.

Use Google Flights to see what your flight options are
Set some alerts and you will be notified if/when price changes

Don’t know if ITA will be included in Google Flight searches as it is so new

Are you talking about Google’s ITA matrix for airfare comparison or the airline that arose from the ashes of Alitalia? When we shop for airfare from US to Europe we follow that advice from a previous poster and are flexible with our arrival city or do an open jaw. You can put a fare alert for prices changes on major airlines. Our luck with 3rd party vendors has not been so good.

You are a bit too early
You’ll only be able to search for flights thru 10/10/22

Try booking through an agent recommended by the RS group. They just got us great BC rates for next Sept and Oct to Italy.

Using third party sites like the one you mentioned is like playing craps. You could roll the dice and win, or you can roll the dice and lose.

Buying tickets from most of these sites is not like buying direct from the airline. If there is a problem, you have to deal with those sites. The airline can't help you. And those sites don't like to deal with problems.

Here's how they work....Let's say, I run a ticket agency; Frank's Cheap Tickets (FCT). I negotiate a deal with the airline for thousands of tickets at a big discount. I then resell them to you at a higher price which is my profit. If there is a problem, the airline will give the refund to me. Not you, since I'm the actual purchaser of the ticket. You would then have to get your money back from me. I may not be very quick in doing that or I may have some hidden fees in the terms and conditions that no one ever reads.

Buy direct from the airline or a good travel agent.

One tip... the busier the route/the more competition, the cheaper the ticket. The busiest route across the Atlantic is between New York and London.

Buy direct from the airline. Sign up to e-mail alerts from the airlines of your choice as most have regular sales which you are unlikely to know about without being alerted by the airlines themselves.

I have never bought business class flights from a third party due to the risks involved. Buying direct from the airline, particularly during sale periods can often result in some good savings.

The old adage, "If it looks too good to be true...." is very pertinent in this case. If you're looking for business class flights at economy prices then you're going to disappointed.

Ditto what others have said about buying directly from the airline, not from a third party.

British Airways releases flights 355 days in advance, not 330 days like most, so their October flights are up now. The flight prices they show when you do a test booking show a week at a time, so you can pick the headset date.

Right now, you can book Miami to Rome and back to Miami in business class on many days in October for $3400. That is outbound to Rome on British Airways, with the return via Madrid on Iberia.

You can bring that price down to $2400 RT by choosing Premium Economy on the home bound flight, instead of Business Class. That return flight is a daytime flight, and you are on your way home, so the benefits of Business Class (flatbed seat for good sleep on the way over, lounge access before the outbound flight, etc. ) are less important than for the overnight flight on the outbound.

Thank you all for your great advice...yes, I will now steer clear of any 3rd party sites!

Jim, do you have a specific person at RS travel to speak with, who got you such great rates? I'd be interested in knowing from/to and the cost if you are willing to share.
Lola, good idea about premium economy on the return; I haven't flown PE yet -- doesn't seem like much of a difference from economy/cattle car! Let me know if I'm wrong!
I will also look into Madrid, etc from your suggestions. Hope you all have a happy, safe holiday and travels!

My experience on British Airways with Premium Economy Vs. Coach made me feel like there were significant differences that I appreciated. I liked the smaller cabin towards the front of the aircraft, the wider seats with more legroom, and the improved catering options.

My price quotes were for BritishAirways outbound, Iberia on the way home. I just looked at the seating in Premium Economy on the Iberia A330, which according to the website is the plane on that route. Seating in PE is 2-3-2 instead of the standard 2-4-2 in regular economy. So I the seats are wider, and there is a smaller, dedicated cabin to this class. And generally the food is better to PE than regular economy, but that is airline-specific so you need to check on that.

Up to you, but you should think about what you want out of business class, and whether it is worth $1000 more to pay for the difference between PE and business class for a daytime flight on your way home.

We have been flying business class on British Airways for the past ten years, courtesy of our accumulation of miles. It is very nice, but I would not be happy paying for these trips at full price, which is usually around $6,000 and up. From time to time, we look back at Premium Economy when we board, and for the flight home, my husband asks why we are paying so much to fly business class for a daytime flight, when PE looks almost as good? (The answer for us is that we are using miles, not paying full fare, so there is little difference in $$$).

And what is the benefit of lounge access at 10 am or other morning time, which is the usual departure time for the Westbound (to the USA) flights.? Free coffee and tea, and snacks. Is that worth $1000 extra to you?

Lola has an excellent plan. Business class flying to Europe is worth it, but as she said, the daytime flight home you really don't experience much more than premium economy. However, sometimes round trip may be less expensive all in BC. Also, even though Rome is your destination, remember your goal is to get to Europe the most cost effective way possible. As I mentioned, I flew Miami to Madrid twice because it was direct and the least expensive for business class. From Madrid I once flew on to Rome and another time flew on to Prague. Intra-Europe flights are very inexpensive.

There are not as many direct flights into too many cities in Europe from Miami. Iberia, American and British seem to be the most popular airlines. I am not familiar with the new Italian airline takeover of ITA to tell you the comfort of their planes. Mostly I have flown Iberia and American which were nice.

Not roundtrip, but I recently flew JFK to Rome non-stop on Delta in the DeltaOne seats, and it was the most amazing experience ever. I'm a lifetime economy guy, but one day when browsing the Delta site directly I found these seats for just $1200 each, and they are often thousands more. I'd just got the stimulus check, so I jumped at the chance!

So, don't be afraid to look directly on the airline site, you might get a surprise like I did!

Now I'm travel ruined, having experienced it. I'll likely never afford it again lol.

I share Dan's experience.
My first international trip was supposed to be my only trip. Someone encouraged me to fly up front. For a once in a lifetime trip, the cost was worth it. Well...years later, I am now going every year (nix 2020). If I am traveling on my own, I fly Delta one to Europe and premium economy or now premium select on the way home. For me, the differences are worth it. If I am buying my son's ticket also, we fly premium select or premium economy both ways. The only way I will ever agree to fly economy is on a less than 2 hour flight. I am done sitting with my knees crammed into the seat in front of me and my neighbor's elbows in my ribs.

It seems as though a lot of flyers agree with this as I have read that more planes are being outfitted with a larger premium economy cabin. Buying patterns affect what is available in the future.

Cissy, You are mixing up two different classes of service that have similar names. Delta One and Comfort Plus. I rarely make this suggestion, but I think you might really benefit from using a travel agent.

Best of luck to you.

One -way flights to Europe are almost always very expensive. It is much better to book round trio, or “ multi-city ( open jaw) if you want to fly into and out of different airports.

I think Carol is correct. You should probably should use a travel agent. Business Class Miami-Rome RT in Oct.2022 is about $3,100 right now. You have a lot of time before your trip.
