buses up the hill in Oltrarno in Florence

Does anyone know if there are buses which go up the hill in the Oltrarno district from, say, the Ponte Vecchio, perhaps up Via Romana? If so, how often do they run? Thanks. Peter

From Ponte Vecchio to Porta Romana it's a straight flat shot taking Via Romana, it's not uphill at all. The number 11 runs through via Romana coming from Porta Romana toward Via Maggio (northbound), but since Via Romana is a one way street northbound in the direction of Piazza Pitti. To go south, toward Porta Romana, the no. 11 must go through Via de' Serragli, a sort of parallel street to via Romana, also one way street going south. The number 11 going south crosses the Arno at the bridge called Ponte Alla Carraia, therefore from the Ponte Vecchio you need to walk to that bridge first to catch it and go south toward Porta Romana.

If by going 'uphill' in the Oltrarno, you mean going up to Piazzale Michelangelo, or Forte Belvedere (the only places truly up the hill in the Oltrarno, since the rest is pretty flat), then there would be the 12 or the 13. Unfortunately they don't pass by Ponte Vecchio, so you have to go to Piazza Ferrucci. If you are unable to walk up to those two locations, I suggest a taxi, it's faster and less convoluted.
