We will be traveling to Positano via the train from Palermo. Looking at the SITA bus schedule and stops, I notice that going from Salerno/Almafi, the SITA bus stops at Sponda and going from Sorrento side, SITA stops at Chiesa Nuova. We are supposed to meet the owner of the villa that we rented at a hotel down from the Chiesa bus stop. Does anyone know if the bus driver is "helpful" enough to drop us off the Chiesa stop coming from thge Almafi side? I also understand there is a "local" bus in Positano. How easy is it to catch this bus (cost and frequency)?
You didn't say when this was happening, whether in season or off-season.
You are looking at an awfully long train ride from Palermo to Salerno, probably with a change in Naples to get to Salerno. Suggest you look at the AirOne website and fly to Naples, take the airport bus from the Naples airport to Sorrento, and catch the bus to the coast there. Was in Palermo a week ago coming from Sorrento, and found an airfare for 2 $50 more than a first class train tickets from Naples to Palermo.
Hi K - The answer to your question is YES - The Sita driver will stop and let you off at Chiesa Nuova!!
Ciao, Greg
Thank you for helping. We are going in May. There are 4 of us going. Train fare is on sale for 30% off so that a 2nd class ticket from Palermo to Salerno is only euro 31. Can't beat that. Besides, we understand that the bus route from Almalfi is the most beautiful and thrilling ride. Knowing that the bus driver is accommodating really helps. Thank you, G.

If you are starting out on the bus from Salerno to Amalfi and Positano make sure you sit on the left side of the bus to get the most effect of the coast line. It is a thrilling ride. If you have time stop in Amalfi and take a further bus ride up to Ravello - again a great ride.
