Buses in Tuscany

We are headed to Italy May 8-16. Spending a few nights in Cinque Terre and are also headed to Tuscany. We are staying at the Hotel Borgo di Cortefreda. Is there frequent bus transportation to take us to Florence and Siena for the day? Also, is Lake Como too much to plan for in this trip?

Contact your hotel about bus transportation. Schedules may be very limited. Car rental may be your best option. If you decide to rent, consider pick- up in La Spezia and drive to the Borgo.

You do not have enough time for Como.

Check www.acvbus.it, bus #370. It goes between Poggibonsi and Firenze with relative frequency and stops in the towns just north and south of your hotel. Your hotel could tell you whether there's a closer stop and confirm the frequency. You'll need to changes buses in Poggibonsi for Siena, and there are buses about hourly on that route. As for Lake Como, it's only a possibility if your flying in or out of Milan, but personally I wouldn't add a third destination to such a short trip.

The hotel is between Tavarnelle VP and Barberino. Buses will not be frequent and virtually non existent on Sunday. If you intend to stay at that hotel, then a rental car is a must. If you don't want to rent a car, then you should stay either in the center of Florence or the center of Siena.
Rent your car in La Spezia, near the Cinque Terre and return it wherever you fly out of (Rome? Milan? Florence?)
Lake Como is too far to visit from Tuscany on a day trip. If you are going to Milan after Tuscany you might add it if you have at least 2 or 3 nights to spare.
