When taking a bus from Fiumicino airport to Termini Station do you buy a ticket first at bus station, ( like the train) or just pay the fee on bus?
Thanks, Gerri
Is it just cheaper to take the bus instead of the train? Just curious.
I think the bus may be cheaper. But....it's a bus. Traffic, fumes, yuck. Why don't you take the train?
Where are you staying? We like the local train if we’re staying in Trastevere or Testaccio.
It is just outside the Terminal. Not sure of current price but it was 8 euro a couple of years ago. Probably in the range of 9 or 10 euro now. Other than price and time there is no advantage to the bus but it does later and earlier than the train.
Info on bus service from FCO
I've taken bus and train to Termini and both are just fine (no fumes that I noticed). Bus takes longer but imo is a more interesting ride. Tickets are purchased at ticket booths near train station entrance, then you go outside to the bus. There will be small signs showing price and next departure time for a few competing bus companies. My last ride a few years ago was either 5 or 6 euro.
We've done as Frank stated: bought our bus tickets at a kiosk at the airport (outside of baggage) and they told us where to stand outside to catch the next bus for the company we had tickets for. It was painless, and cheaper than the Leonardo Express train. The buses take a bit longer than the trains but they're the touring-coach type with comfy seats, big windows and air conditioning so very comfortable. Luggage larger than carry-on size gets stored underneath.
Thanks for info. I like idea of the bus because there are 4 companies & buses leave every 10-15 min(& are 6 euros instead of 14 for train). The train leaves twice per hour- so even though it takes half the time, you could lose some time waiting for it.... I just wondered how & where to get bus tickets at the airport, because it wasn’t specific in Rick Steve’s Italy book .
Thanks again !
Elaborating on my posting above, the ticket windows for the buses are inside on the arrivals level of Terminal 3. Go to your right after exiting the baggage claim and customs area and they will be on the right side of the corridor as you approach the entrance to the train station (which is on the left). Also, note that Leonardo Express trains were running about 3 times an hour between Termini and FCO when I was there earlier this month.
Thanks again
