Sounds like you're passing through Florence on your way to a smaller town in Tuscany. You can buy tickets upon arrival in Florence for the next bus departing to your final destination. No need to purchase in advance, and no savings for doing so. Depending on where you're going, it could be one of a couple of bus stations. If you post your final destination, I can provide more details.

Thank you, we are going to Montalcino. I see there is a #3 train to Siena then there is a bus #114 to Torrenieri and then the #112 to Montalcino. I'm having a hard time finding a bus schedule/fares in English. We are on tight connections. At one point, I saw a bus #365A leaving at 14:46pm..but now I'm not sure where I saw that.

Your bus options to Montalcino will be limited on Sunday, as only those buses with a cross at the top of column run on Sundays. The rest run either Mon-Sat or Mon-Fri. Appears there are only 1 early (7:17am) and 2 late (8:20pm and 9:17pm) buses departing Siena for Montalcino on Sundays. Fares are based on distance, so you'd need to check driving distance on one of the map websites and then compare it to the fare schedule to get an idea of cost. Another option would be train to Chiusi, bus to Montipulciano and a taxi to Montalcino. You'd have more flexibility, but the taxi could be somewhat expensive. Plus you'd want to check with the Montipulciano TI to confirm taxis are available on a Sunday. You might also e-mail your Montalcino hotel and ask for their suggestions.
