There are 3 companies that operate buses in Tuscany. Keep that in mind when you are trying to work out how to get from one town to another. You will sometimes need to use 2 companies to get from A to B and the schedules don't always coincide, nor do the bus stops (sometimes in the same place, sometimes you have to walk a bit - and, of course, locate the stop). If you are based out of Siena bus travel is easy. We did it and enjoyed it alot. We rented a car as we left Siena area to see Orvieto, Cortona, Assisi.
