We have a hotel lined up about 3 miles NW of the vatican. is it pretty easy to get arround Rome by bus? I have looked up the schedules looks like 45 minute ride with stops to the pantheon area from hotel. taxi a better way?
How about the metro. Name the hotel and we can check if the metro is nearby.
I recently returned from 6 or 7 days is Rome. We bought Roma Passes and rode the buses and metro with no problems. We never took a taxi - so can't comment on that. I also found most of Rome very walkable - the old areas are all pretty close and walking was great.
(It was really hot while I was there, but no other problems.)
Why are you staying so far away from everything?
3 miles northwest of the Vatican? Are you outside of the G.R.A. (Grande Raccordo Anulare)? Why so far? Couldn't you find something in or near the city center?
There is also a commuter rail line NW of the Vatican that stops at Valle Aurelia Metro station and continues to San Pietro station then Trastevere station. Can I guess the Marriot Courtyard by any chance?
Sam and I had the same thought. I'm plumping for the Coutyard too. If so, the Central Park one (don't you hate the new Marriott website Metro looking thing?) is only 200 metres from the FM3 train at Gemelli.
we didn't pick hotel. others in group did. we have been to rome before so we are familiar with layout. it is crown plaza st peters on Via Aurelia Antica
I would find a different hotel. You are staying too far from the sights. You're not going to be able to walk to anything. Any money you will save by staying this far out our by using points is going to eaten up with taxis.
My guess is that he is staying in a hotel on ff points. You pay in other ways for a free hotel.
That's actually 2 miles SW of the Vatican. Check out Ron-in-Rome's article at http://www.roninrome.com/transportation/bus-metro-tram-rome-italy
