Is Busbud a legit way of pre-purchasing bus tickets? Is there schedule accurate? I have a group of 8 traveling from Siena to Florence for a day in the fall and want to make sure we all get on the same bus.
Use this link for italy bus travel
You can check bus schedules and book your tickets here: www.busfox.com
This website is in Italian, so you’ll need to enter the city names as such.
Florence = Firenze.
Another option would be to take the train. You can check train schedules here: trenitalia.com
Have a wonderful trip!
I would second the train option. It will be a regional trains so no need to purchase tickets in advance (no discount or advantage) and the train never sells out so you can always ride. Roughly two trains an hour for abut 10 euro. Buy the tickets at the station.
I will be traveling Florence to Siena. We were planning on a bus, because it's faster. I read in RS to buy at the station (not on the bus where it costs more) I can see why OP might be concerned about getting a group on one bus. Should I purchase bus tickets ahead of time for two people?
Thanks Carl. Finding bus times on your site was easier than the regular bus sites, so thanks for that. Will be following through with your site. Grazie
Having spent several months in Siena over the years, I'd always advocate the bus over the train.
While the bus station and train station in Florence are relatively close to each other, in Siena, the train station is at the bottom of the hill - and either a bus ride, or a reasonable walk (There are escalators up from the shopping complex ) opposite the station, but they still bring you out about 20 minutes walk from the city centre.
The other issue is that normally you would need to change trains at Empoli (This may no longer be true, but certainly was last time we were in the region)
Thanks Tim,
I appreciate hearing from someone who's lived there. The whole reason this post began is because I chose for my friends to stay in Siena over Florence because of the general charm of Siena. I now realize logistics are a bit of a pain, but I'll deal with it. Bus sounds like the winner and I'll purchase the tickets ahead of time to insure 8 can get on, especially since it will be on a Sunday. Private drivers are simply too expensive. Thanks again
I'm going to jump into this thread a little late to say that the train from Florence to Siena is under-appreciated. There is the added comfort the train provides and a better chance to see the countryside. Sure the train station is at the bottom of the hill, but a series of indoor escalators goes up to the top of the hill. The 20 minute walk into the square includes a couple of great views of the Tuscan countryside and a walk by the ancient city walls and through a gate. It also affords a chance to see a less touristy side of Siena.
