Hi.
You’re looking to do a one day trip out of Florence to visit Siena and San Gimignano. We are going middle of June. What is the best way to arrange this day trip and how far in advance. Do we go bus or train? Thank you.
Sandy Miano sounds like a wonderful exotic beach.
Bus-is faster:
http://www.tiemmespa.it/index.php/Viaggia-con-noi/Orari-e-linee/Siena/Extraurbano
131R (131 Rapida) Firenze to Siena
Then
130 Siena to San Gimignano
Then
130 San Gimignano to Siena, but get off at Poggibonsi FS
Finally
131 Poggibonsi FS to Firenze
The A and the R after the number means Andata (going) and Ritorno (return)
Try to go on a weekday when there are more bus runs.
No need to prearrange anything. Just buy tickets at the bus station in Florence on on the Bar Deanna side of the Piazza Stazione.
I would be looking for a tour bus trip if you want to see both Siena and San Gimignano. Connections are just too complicated. Viator may have a trip like that.
If you were just going to Siena, the buses leave from across the street from the Florence train station. The busses are sitting to the right of McDonald's restaurant and on the block behind it. It is about 1 hr. city center to city center.
We did a day trip from Florence to Siena by public bus. Siena is wonderful and we spent an entire day and evening exploring this famous hill town. Perhaps consider saving San Gimignono for another time.
Robert, haha. Auto correct. Thank you for the tips on the bus numbers. That was exactly what I was looking for. I traveled this route 18 years ago on a train. Reading other posts the bus seemed a better way to roll
