Rick speaks of a bus tour from Sorrento down the Almafi Coast. Does anyone know the tour//bus line? Is there a boat option for the return to Sorrento?

You can either take the local bus from Sorrento to Amalfi (the town), see the timetable at the bottom of the linked page. A 7.20 euro day ticket would last all day and would also cover the bus up to Ravello from Amalfi.

There are seasonal boat services between Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento but they are late getting started this year. The services are subsidised with public money and there is some thought that with money being tight the season will not run for as long as in the past. Last year they finished at the end of September which was somewhat earlier than usual.
Just keep an eye on this site for when the 2010 timetables are announced. The awarding of the contract has yet to be announced.
