I think this was mentioned before, but, is there a bus from FCO to the Vatican area?
There are a couple of bus options

Jerry, there is a SIT shuttle bus which runs from the airport to Via Crescenzio no. 2 near the Vatican. The stop is behind Castel Sant' Angelo.

These coaches are cheap, air-conditioned and comfortable.
I like Terravision too but it only goes to Termini..which is some distance from the Vatican.
There is also a metro line in that area: you could take the more pricey express train (Leonardo Express) to Termini and catch metro line A to the stop nearest where you want to be.
Are your trying to get to accommodations in that area?
Thanks for the info about the bus, always looking for easy and inexpensive. We already have a hotel booked.
Gotcha. Just wanting to make sure you weren't trying to go TO the Vatican directly from the airport. Luggage would be a problem...
We've taken the coach shuttles from the airport and they are really cheap and really easy. Large bags go underneath: carryons with you. There are ticket booths right outside the luggage carousel exit, or it looks like SIT lets you just pay the driver directly.
Or take the local train - FM1 (I think) from FCO and get off at the St. Peter's stop. I think it is 8 euro for the train.
Frank, I picked this map up from the ATAC website: can you take a look?

I might be nuts (always a possibility) but it looks like you have to change from FM 1 to FM 3 at Trastevere to get to San Pietro?
Depending on location of hotel, Valle Aurelia may even be closer?
Multiple options, I guess...
In mid-June I took the Vatican shuttle Kathy talks about from FCO to Via Crescenzio no. 2 near the apartment I rented. It was very easy. I bought my €6 ticket from the agent right at the bus. There is no need to get tickets online or early. The driver put my bag under.
There are only 2 stops, first the Vatican one and 2nd the Roma Termini one.
Turn right after you come out of the terminal, walk as far as you can inside, then go outside and keep going the same direction on the sidewalk. You will come to an area with all kinds of buses and shuttles. The Vatican one is on the left and clearly marked. I think it is stall #5, but I really don't remember.
