bus to Vatican from Cavalieri Hilton

Can anyone enlighten me as to how I get to the Vatican via a bus from the area around the Cavalieri Hilton? I know they have their own shuttle but it does not appear to go in the vicinity of the Vatican. Thanks.

Susan,

Have fun at the Cavalieri Hilton. That place is awesome!

When we went to the vatican from the Hilton, we took a taxi for around 10E. We had a morning appointment and we didn't want to bother with the hastle of figuring out the bus. Their shuttle goes to Piazza Barberini. You may be able to talk to the shuttle driver and get him to drop you in a more strategic location to catch a bus or the Metro. Their concierge there is also very helpful as well.

The coffee shop right across from the Vatican museum entrance has some awesome cappuccino and dessert. Have one for my wife and I! There is also some good shopping bargains around that area as well, so be sure to check it out.

Susan,

The Cavalieri Hilton is probably one of the finest Hilton's I've ever stayed at. If you're a Diamond Member, make sure to get on floors 7 or 8 - the Executive Floors. If not, still ASK FOR a room that faces Rome (The other side looks directly at apartment buildings!).

Unfortunately the one downfall of the Hilton is the location. Bus service from here will require a few connections. The local bus service (ATAC) has this web site with a route planner: www.atac.roma.it . Click on the top right British flag for English.

Here's their route on two buses (913 and 280):

Departure from Hilton at Via Alberto Cadlolo
Walk 250 metres - go to stop PRISCIANO/MEDAGLIE D'ORO

Take Line No 913 (AUGUSTO IMPERATORE) to 14 stops -

Get off at stop CICERONE/CAVOUR

Take Line No 280 (PARTIGIANI (FS)) to 2 stops - Get off at stop P.ZA PIA/CONCILIAZIONE and walk 150 metres to the Via Della Conciliazione, the road leading to St. Peter's Basillica.

That's probably the easiest way. Frankly, once you got to Piazza Cavour, directly behind the huge Hall of Justice and looking sideways at Castel Sant' Angelo I would just get off and walk. Head to Castel Sant' Angelo and turn right on Via Della Conciliazione. You'll see St. Peter's in front of you!

Going back, you'll probably have to catch the #23 bus to L.GO TRIONFALE, then transfer to the #913!

Or you can take a cab! The Hilton Shuttle runs into town once an hour but quits about 9 PM. So if you're downtown late, plan on a cab. The Shuttle used to stop ONLY at Piazza Barberini (near Trevi Fontain)... but as suggested, I would talk with the concierge and driver. Good luck!

Ciao,
Ron

R0n,
Thank you so much for the information on the bus routes. Your information is always invaluable. I have copied so many of your posts to take with us on our trip. You are such an asset to this site. When we made our trip plans my huband was a Diamond. Unfortunately, our once in a lifetime trip was motivated after my undergoing a health issue and as a result he did not travel quite as much and his new status is currently Gold. While hoping originally for the Diamond perks, I don't think that will be the case now. However, the gift of seeing Rome and then Tuscany with my family is more than enough for me.
Thank you Dan for the cappuccino and dessert suggestion. I'll definetly do that and think of you and your wife when I do.

Susan,

When we booked our trip on points, we were diamond members as well. When we stayed, we were gold members. The executive levels were booked, but we did receive a deluxe room facing the city. It was pretty special. I did notice that in Europe I always need for some reason to ask for an upgrade. At the Cavalieri, I was told, "but sir, you are diamond, of course you have been upgraded!" An additional trick you can try is to check in online 36 hours in advance of checkin and select your room. You can actually select the room you are to stay in online (including the executive floors). I did this for my last business trip state-side and it worked great. I hope you get the upgrade!

Since you are gold, you get complimentary breakfast as well. I didn't get to sample the executive floor one, but there was a pretty awesome full breakfast downstairs that was free for having the gold membership.

Have a great trip!

Dan
