We seem to be unable to buy bus tickets from Castellammare di Stabia to Agerola, or back from Agerola to Naples. We have downloaded a Sita bus app but cannot get to the step of actually purchasing tickets. We are in Canada. Do you think we might need to be in Italy to buy them.

It is certainly possible. You could try a VPN with a location set in Italy.
Not sure you need tickets far in advance for local buses.
