I know train strikes are fairly frequent in Italy. Do bus strikes happen as well? I'm just trying to come up with a back-up plan if when I arrive in Italy, there happens to be a train strike. Thanks.
Gretchen, I just returned from a month in Italy. During that time, we ran into one day where not only were the trains on strike but also the buses and ferries (we were in Bellagio trying to get to Milan). I was told that generally, when one goes on strike, they all go on strike or that some trains will run when others won't. The strike on that particular day only lasted five hours; sometimes they last for a day. About the best advice I could give you is to be flexible in your plans and be prepared for the unexpected. Chances are however, you won't run into any problems. Have a great time in Italy; it is a fabulous country, strike or no strike.
