I read a couple years ago, that Orvieto was considering stopping the bus service from the funicular to the center. Does anyone know if this came to fruition? We have a limited amount of time in orvieto so I'm trying to plan on wasting not a single second. If the bus has stopped, what is the quickest way to get us to the center and back? Thanks!
Wendi,
Do you mean the "centre" near the Duomo? I don't know the current status of the Bus, but it actually doesn't take long to walk from the top of the Funicular to the Duomo.
Hi Wendi
I'm staying in Orvieto in a few weeks and a couple days ago my B&B owner sent me an email with directions including which bus stop to get off at closest to the B&B so I'd assume it's still running at least until early September. If you use the funicular to get up to the edge of town, the bus is included, just show your ticket to the driver.
There are two bus routes from the funivia to the Duomo, one goes directly there and the other stops at various places in the city. Your funivia ticket is good for the bus ride, too.
I was in Orvieto last month and both routes were running, although the longer route has been changed; perhaps that was what you heard about.
It was something Rick posted on his travel blog in 2013, about the city losing money so they were going to discontinue bus service via bus "A" to the duomo from the funicular. But I'm glad to hear it's still running. Thanks everyone!
