Bus Stations - Assisi

There are two bus stations in Assisi, one below town in Piazza Unita d'Italia, and one inside town at Piazza Matteotti.
We will be staying in the old town and want to take day trips by bus to Spella, Spoleto, and Gubbio. Which station do these buses leave from? Could use some information!

Piazza Matteotti.
However I doubt there are direct buses. You probably have to change in Perugia (for Gubbio) or Foligno (for Spoleto). Maybe Spello has a direct bus, since it's nearby, but not sure.

I have stayed in Assisi and visited Spello for a few hours. You can take the train from Assisi to Spello - the train ride is less than 10 minutes and about two Euros each way.

Hi 2shoes,
When I visited Assisi, I took the train to Spello, but there is a bus (line E 415) departing from Piazza Matteotti.
You can check bus schedules here:
fsbusitalia

Do keep in mind that public bus schedules are not “tourist friendly”
because they are mainly for the locals to travel to/ from school or work.
Therefore there are buses departing Assisi early in the morning and returning in the early afternoon.

I also visited Spoleto on a whim but I was traveling from Trevi.

In order to get to Spoleto from Assisi, you’d need to take the bus ( Line E415) or train, to Foligno then transfer to a bus (line E423), or train to Spoleto.

Spoleto is very hilly but there are escalators that can take you all the way up to the Rocca (former papal fortress)

Make sure you get a map of the city to find out location of these escalators!

Here are my trip reports on Beautiful Spello and Beautiful Trevi and Spoleto for more details.

Please note public buses do not run on Sundays in Umbria, so plan accordingly.

When are you planning to visit Umbria?

Enjoy your trip!
