Hello, staying in san polo in venice and wondering best way to get from airport. Bus seems to run more frequently and closer to airport. worth it?? Thinking might not use vaporetto pass, if anything may ride on a traghetto to get across. Staying 3 nights.
It really depends on where in San Polo you are staying. I will be near the San Toma stop. As a result, I need to take a bus from the airport to a Piazzale Roma, then catch a vaporetto to San Toma. If you are near Piazzale Roma, you can probably just take the bus. It was explained to me by other RS travelers that it is very difficult to drag luggage around Venice due to many bridges that are basically staircases rather than paved ramps.
The vaporetto passes are def worth it, since I think each individual trip is 7 euro a pop. We certainly got our worth out of them, unless you plan to walk absolutely everywhere...even a trip to Murano/Burano is going to set you back quite a bit. We've stayed by the San Toma stop as well (3 times at the same B&B). We had one arrival from the airport, and two by train. We used the bus from the airport, then the vaporetto. One time we arrived from an overnight train and decided to walk to the B&B - and even tho we only had carry on wheelie luggage, it was a bit of a long haul (and the covering on one of my suitcase wheels shredded, making me lopsided for the rest of the trip...lol).
You should for sure look into the pass - I think most would recommend them...and take the vaporetto...and unless my memory fails me, I'm sure the bus was covered in the pass - I rem using it once when we were going from the bus station to the airport for a flight out and not costing us any extra...
The pass does not include land trips to or from the airport but the bus to Piazalle Roma is still a bargain. If you're going to be in Venice for three nights get the pass. You'll want it for spontaneous trips around the lagoon.
Actually, you can get the vaporetto pass with either a one way or round trip bus transfer added in at a small discount ( 4 euro, vs 6 euro single fare). Just click on the services you desire at this site to get the prices.

My point was to clarify that the basic 12 hour to 72 hour passes specifically do not include the bus to or from the airport. The site posted above is a tourism city pass site which assembles a variety of ticket combinations - there are some that give you passes to public bathrooms. But the standard vaporetto pass does not include the bus to the airport.
From the official ACTV website:
"The Travel Cards are the most economical solution for people who want to get around Venice and its surroundings on Actv’s land and water services. They allow unlimited travel and can be used on all the services - both waterborne (except those of routes Alilaguna, and Actv routes no. 16, 19, 21 and Casinò) and on land - that provide urban services within the municipality ("Comune") of Venice (land services on the Lido and in Mestre except land-bus routes for journeys having Venice Marco Polo Airport as departure or arrival point )."
We had a different experience regarding the 72 hour passes and validity on the bus. I understand the replies that the 72 hour ACTV vaporetto pass does not cover the bus to or from the airport to Piazzale Roma. Also the web site where you can buy the passes in advance also states that and you can buy the bus ride for 4Euro additional charge and we also assumed that to be correct. BUT, in February we (a party of 6) purchased the 72 hour passes at the Sta. Lucia train station and we did not pay extra for the bus to the airport. The woman at our hotel desk told us she thought the passes were valid for the bus, too and if they didn't work we could buy our tickets on the bus. As we were flying home and were planning to take the vaporetto and then the bus to the airport we decided to try our passes. We used the passes on the vaporetto and then scanned them on the bus and each one registered! So for us, the 72 hour ACTV pass did cover the bus ride to the airport. Luck, error, or standard procedure; we're not sure, but it did work. Regardless, the 72 hour pass is well worth it as many others have stated.
We just rented an apartment in Venice for July of this year through VBRO and the property manager/ contact person mentioned 2 ways to get from the airport to Venice. The first way was the bus and then vaporetto
The other way was the boat Alilaguna which is about 1 hour from the airport to the Sant'Angelo boat stop for 15Euro per person.

The bus takes 20 minutes and is 5 Euro per person plus the vaporetto is 7 Euro pp and takes 35 minutes to get to the Sant'Angelo stop.
