We will be in Siena for 4 nights and then are going to Venice by train. I've looked at bus vs. train from Florence to Venice, but don't know which would be better. The train makes a lot of stops, but at least we are at the train station when we get to Florence rather than at the bus station. How far apart are the train and bus stations? We will have a rental car that we could drive up to Florence to return (we intend to return in Siena, but could change that), but we would not be at the train station and would have to make our way there after returning the car. Any suggestions on what would be the best way to get to the Florence train station to catch our train to Venice ??
Bus station us about a block from Firenze train station -- easy walk. We diid bus from Siena and train to Venice with no problem.
The only considerations I would add are the time of day and where you are in Siena. If you're (probably) much closer to the bus than the train station, the bus would be better, unless you'd be traveling when there might be traffic congestion on the road.
We are staying at the Palazzo Ravizza because we can park the car there and it seems nice. I think the train station is on the other side of town from there and that the bus stops somewhere in the town itself which according to the hotel website is about 1/2 mile away. We plan to take the fast train to Venice that leaves around 12:30 -13:30. The train makes 6 stops on the way and the bus is direct, but they seem to take about the same amount of time. I just wasn't sure that the bus station in Florence was close enough for us to get there on foot.
