Bus or taxi from Siena or Florance to Volterra

Hi All ,
My wife and I will be in Florance / Siena area in June, we would really like to take a small side trip to Volterra while there.

Has anyone taking public transportation to Volterra from either of those cities? We were wondering how difficult it would be?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Regards
Nathan

The website Rome2Rio.com gives several options with time, distance and price estimates for each. Give that a try and hopefully someone will also relate personal experience.

Taking the bus from Siena or Florence to Volterra isn't difficult. I've done it. It does however involve a change of bus in Colle Val d'Esla, and you sometimes need to buy your second ticket at the octagonal magazine kiosk there as 2 different bus companies are involved (the reason for the required change of bus). Also, there are a limited number of buses per day, so you need to be mindful of your return time options. Bus tickets are cheap, whereas a taxi ride would be very expensive.

Check schedules carefully if you're going on a Sunday. Maybe summer is different but in early October, buses didn't run between Siena and Volterra.
