I would like to know how to get from Florence, via Siena, to Montalcino on Sunday, May 19, 2013, without renting a car. We thought we would take buses. But I just searched this site and found postings (from 2008) that indicate buses on Sunday are scarce, if any. Any suggestions?

If you plan to go to Montalcino from Florence as a day trip, you should rent a car, because at best you wont be able to see much and at worst you may not make it back to Florence on the same evening. If it's a one way trip, you can make it by bus. Websites for timetables provided below. From Florence to Siena you can either take a train: Www.trenitalia.com Or a bus: http://www.mega.it/ita/not/sita.htm One or two asterisks is working days only, # is every day,= is Sunday n holidays. From Siena to Montalcino take a bus: http://www.trainspa.it/train04/extraurbano.pdf The Siena Montalcino is on table 114. Two hammers icon means working days, a cross icon means Sunday n holidays.
As you can see Sunday service is indeed limited, especially from Siena to Montalcino.
