Bus from Siena to Rome??

We are planning our first trip to Italy in the spring. After Florence we want to spend a few nights in Siena and the Tuscan hill towns. From there we are going to Rome. Trying to keep backtracking at a minimum i'm thinking about taking the bus from Siena to Rome.

Thoughts on this?

Hello stephencook5,

There are Siena to Rome buses if that's what you want to do. Most people here start with the website rome2rio.com and you can put in your start and end destinations and get suggested routes including buses, trains, taxis etc. The use of R2R always comes with a big grain of salt but it's a good place to start.

Itabus offers Siena train station to Rome train station buses multiple times a day taking about 3 hours and costing 5-10e a person.

There are other bus companies as well so feel free to browse.

Personally back tracking on the train to get to the big city and take the faster trains isn't a big deal but if the bus works for you it looks like a cheap and time effective option.

Have a great trip,

I would opt for train just for the more available creature comforts.

There are two lines, the Flixbus and the Itabus, both leaving from the center of town; taking 2:40.

If you have time, consider taking the train from Siena to Orvieto, spend an overnight (or longer) before heading to Rome (also by train)

Wishing you a wonderful trip!

Edited to add…
You can check train schedules and book your train tickets here: Trenitalia.com

Train time Siena to Orvieto [granted a great town] is over 3 hours with a a change in Chiusi, plus the couple of additional hours spent when changing hotels.

We are taking the bus from Rome to Siena when we visit in June It’s faster and more convenient than the train. Plus it’s very cheap.
