Does anyone know how I can find a bus that runs between Pisa and either Certaldo to Volterra? We're flying in to the Pisa airport and then want to catch a bus to one of these towns. (We're hiking through SanG from one town to the other over 2 days and can begin the hike in either direction.)
Any advice much appreciated! Thanks!
Take a shuttle train or bus from the airport to Pisa Centrale train station. Takes less than 10 minutes. The bus stop is right outside the train station. Go to the CPT (bus) website http://www.cpt.pisa.it/ Click on "Percorsi ed Orari" for bus lines & schedules. Click on "Urbano di Pisa" for the airport shuttle bus schedule. The line is called the "LAM Rossa" or "L/R". Click on "Extraurbano" for schedules from Pisa to Pontedera (bus 140) and Pontedera to Volterra (bus 500). You could optionally take a train from Pisa airport to Pontedera & catch bus 500 from there.
You could take the train to Certaldo. You will change trains in Empoli. The airport has a train station that will take you to Pisa Centrale . Should take slightly more than an hour. While in Certaldo, make sure to take the time to go to the top of the hill for Certaldo Alto. We like it better than San G.
Great, thank you so much for the help figuring this out!
I took bus #500 from Pontedera to Volterra a couple of years ago. If you choose to go to Volterra rather than Certaldo, take the train from airport to Pontedera (much better option than bus from Pisa - I speak from experience) and then the bus from there. Bus stop is in the big piazza a block in front of the train station. Buy bus tickets at the cafe to the left as you enter the piazza. Avoid the bus at around 1:00, as it's crowded with very rowdy school students.
Great, thank you!
