Bus from Orvieto to Bagnoregio

Staying in Orvieto for a couple nights in late September and was thinking of taking the bus to Civita Bagnoregio. Have done some searching/planning etc and found a bit of information but just wanted to confirm a few things with those in the know.

  1. I assume the bus is still running regularly and not a big risk that it might not be running when we are there (weekdays)?
  2. Are the earlier morning busses usually full - do we need to get there early to get tickets and stand in line to ensure a seat?
  3. Should we buy return/tickets both ways in Orvieto - I read somewhere that will save time & lineup coming back from Bagnoregio?
  4. I am looking at the timetables on the Cotral site and trying to interpret the schedule to ensure I am looking at the right thing - when I expand the 8:00 am schedule the route details show "CANAL - PORANO NUOVO - PORANO VECCHIO - LUBRIANO". I google mapped these names to see what they are related to, but it didn't find anything related to Orvieto/Bagnoregio. What do they mean, does the bus stop at several places on the way there, do we need to be aware when to get off etc?

Thanks for any info!

Yes, those are towns in between Orvieto and Bagnoregio. Moovit - a third party company - has a map of the route:

Also be aware that even from the last stop in Bagnoregio stop Via Garibaldi you'll have 2km (1.3 miles) walk from the stop to Civita Bagnoregio according to Google. It also looks like not all buses go all the way to Via Garibaldi but stop earlier in Bagnoregio but whatever the case you'll ride it to the end and that's as close as you'll be able to get.

The current schedule looks like it only runs through this month so check the schedule when the schedule that runs through September is out but it seems like it is pretty consistent and no service on Sundays seems to be a constant.

There is also this thread from earlier this year: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/italy/orvieto-to-civita-di-bagnoregio
And this one from TripAdvisor with some good advice: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g194843-i1755-k14755772-Bus_from_Orvieto_to_Bagnoregio-Orvieto_Province_of_Terni_Umbria.html

I haven't been to Civita Bagnoregio in years but it was great to visit when I was there.

Have a great trip,

With only two nights in Orvieto I don't think I would try to add in Civita. That said, I would just Uber and not worry about catching the correct bus at the right time and so on. The Uber can pick you up in the Orvieto and drop you at the foot of the bridge to Civita at whatever time you are ready/want to go. J

I'm not sure if this still applies, but when I was there a few years ago there was a separate Shuttle from Bagnoregio to the base of the bridge at Civita. As someone else mentioned above, it's a bit of a walk if you don't use the Shuttle. One thing I didn't realize at the time, was that the Shuttle took a "siesta" for a few hours in the afternoon, so when I was ready to leave there was no transportation forthcoming.

I figured the only option was to wait for the Shuttle to appear, but unfortunately while I was waiting it started pouring rain heavily and I huddled in a doorway to wait for the Shuttle. As luck would have it, a kindly Italian couple who was leaving at that time took pity on me, and offered me a ride back to Orvieto which I gladly accepted. A serendipitous travel moment and it all worked out in the end.
