Bus from Marco Polo airport to Padua?

I'm trying to find out where to catch the direct bus to Padua from Marco Polo airport and how late they run. My online search efforts indicated the buses go from the Venice airport to the train station, then on to Padua.

Our RS tour instructions spell out where to buy the ticket at the airport but that's all. We fly in from Paris and arrive at 7:45 pm on a Sat, so I would like to know we can still catch the direct bus then.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

PW,
I'm surprised that your tour instructions are not very specific.
As far as I know, there is no direct bus from the airport to Padova, but I may be incorrect. Perhaps it's best for you to contact the RS office for more information.

The following information is for the bus from airport to Venice Mestre train station, then train to Padova:

Since you will be traveling to Padua (Padova) via train, you can take the 'ATVO Fly Bus', which runs between the airport and the Mestre railroad station.

Here is a very informative website with details as to where to find the bus:http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/mestre/mestre-airport-buses.htm

You can check bus schedules here: http://www.atvo.it/index.php?lang=en&area=23&menuid=35

You will want to click on the icon (blue circle with white arrow) next to: 'Aeroporto Marco Polo di Venezia - Mestre F.S. (servizio espresso)' -- 2nd one from top.
The schedule is valid through August 31, but will be updated shortly.

You can check train schedules here:http://www.trenitalia.com

You will need to choose the train stations (Italian names) from the drop down menu as follows:

  • From: Venezia Mestre
  • To: Padova

Both the buses & trains run late and frequently.

Hope this helps!

Hi Priscilla,

Sorry for any confusion. Actually I want to avoid taking a bus and then a train. I was hoping to find the bus that goes directly from Marco Polo to Padua, as indicated on our tour instructions-- "from Venice's Marco Polo Airport-- buses to Padua depart hourly throughout the day, the trip takes about an hour."

If we take the fly bus to Mestre train station, then train to Padua, that would involve two modes of transportation, which I've got to imagine would take more time than a direct bus.

Thank you,
Paulette

Hi,
This website provides information about a bus going directly from Marco Polo to Padova. I found it a bit difficult to find the schedule in the link below. After you click on the link below, go to page 4 of the schedule to see the evening times.
http://www.fsbusitalia.it/cms/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=d0ad73c675a99410VgnVCM1000008916f90aRCRD&vgnextchannel=91898351fe1c8410VgnVCM1000008916f90aRCRD
What is the date you will be arriving? The schedule isfor summer only and will likely be updated in September. Feel free to send me a PM and I will do my best to help you. The website does give an option for English, but when you click on English it stays in Italian. My Italian is quite good so I can help you navigate the Italian website if you like.

Hello Susan,
Thank you for your great email. We are arriving September 12, 7:45 p.m. at Marco Polo airport. We opened the document and saw the timetable but were a little confused by the table. We could not determine which name/stop on the left column is the airport stop.

Realizing that the schedule will change in September, we don't specifically need to know the times as long as they run late enough. If you can help me identify the aiport stop, and is that Bus #53?

Thanks again,
PW

Paulette,

I should be the one apologizing... I tried to help you but failed, but now I've learned something new.

I've visited both Padova & Venice but only took the train between both of these cities.

I clicked on the link provided by Susan & I believe you will need bus #S015 {Thanks Susan!}

Check page 37 here to see the bus schedule:http://www.fsbusitalia.it/cms-file/allegati/fsbusitalia/S015_A_S015_Z_S015_V.pdf

'Tessera Aeroporto' (on the bus schedule) refers to Marco Polo Airport located in the comune of Tessera, Venice.

It looks like there are buses leaving the airport as late as 21:50 (9:50pm) & 22:40 (10:40pm)

Does your tour instructions tell you where you will need to get off the bus once you arrive in Padova?

When does the tour start? Is it possible to spend the night in Venice then travel to Padova the following morning?

I prefer to travel during daylight, especially when arriving to a new location.

Hi Priscilla,

Thank you so much for this info. The link you sent me is quite helpful, at least now I know we can take a bus from the airport. It's unclear which stop in Padua we should take, except that the RS tourbook map says the bus station is 100 yards east of the train station in Padua. If you can make a guess, please let me know.

I opted not to stay in Venice since we'd have to travel in from Marco Polo anyway, we've already been there, and I figured we could just as quickly get to the RS hotel where we are staying a day or two in advance of the tour.

Thanks again,
Paulette

Paulette,

Since you will be arriving at such a late hour, you will probably want to take a taxi to the hotel.

EDIT: Regarding this comment you made above:

I was hoping to find the bus that goes directly from Marco Polo to Padua, as indicated on our tour instructions-- "from Venice's Marco Polo Airport-- buses to Padua depart hourly throughout the day, the trip takes about an hour."

Do your tour instructions give you the name of the bus company? You also asked Susan if it was bus 53.
Do your instructions give you the bus#?

There may be more than one bus company traveling from Venice's airport to Padova, so you may want to make sure you are looking at the correct bus schedule(s).

I still think your best option is to contact Rick Steve's Tour Department (Phone: 425-608-4217) for the information you need.

So I assume you are on the RS Village Italy tour. Took that tour before and flew into Venice. It's very easy to catch the bus directly to Padova. Just follow the signs for transportation. Once you get there, yes the bus station is very near the train station. You can take a cab to your hotel or a tram also which runs toward the St. Anthony Basilica. On our RS tour we stayed at the Hotel Fagiano, half a block from the Basilica.

Thank you all for your great information; I think I'm set now. I decided to take the Flybus to the Venezia Mestre train station because on Saturdays the direct buses leave every hour and as we arrive just after the bus departs, by the time we wait an hour for the next one we could have arrived in Padua. Also, there may be easier access to a taxi from the train station vs. bus stop.

Yes, we are staying at the Albergo al Fagiano for two nights before joining the RS tour for Villages of Italy. Looking forward to it!

The bus station is just 100 meters from the train station, they're next to each other. Also if so inclined, there is a tram from the train station through the center of town and drops you about a block from the Fagiano (if that is your hotel).
