Hello,
We (3 people) will be landing at MXP Malpensa on Sept 5th in the morning. We will be taking the Alibus right from the airport to Stresa. I'm wondering if it's necessary to reserve tickets on the bus, or can we walk-up and pay on the bus. We land at 9:25am, hopefully, and would not make the 10am bus, but there is one at noon.
Has anyone used this bus? Thanks in advance.
J.
Hi, Giangilberto from Milan, check this link below:
https://www.safduemila.com/linee/alibus-malpensa-lago-maggiore/
We recommend reading the entire page carefully. There's also a link to a PDF with all the timetables. Unfortunately, the page doesn't have an English version, you can translate it with a standard online translator.
This is one of the most important parts:
On-call service connecting Malpensa Airport to the towns around Lake Maggiore.
The user must book their trip, choosing from the scheduled times, by 11:00 a.m. the day before departure.
For departures on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, the request must be made by 11:00 a.m. on Fridays. For transfers on holidays and after holidays, the reservation must be made by 11:00 a.m. the day before the holiday.
If there are active reservations, the program www.safbooking.com accepts reservations even outside of office hours, up to full seat capacity.
THE TIMES ARE FAST, IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO WAIT FOR ANY LATECOMERS.
Check also if you can take the train if you miss the bus.
The Malpensa Express coming from Milan now proceeds to Gallarate in the new section of the railway completed earlier this year.
From Gallarate then you take one of the trains that goes up to Domodossola and stop in Stresa along the way. The journey time is about the same as the bus.
There is a train available at 11:58 and the next at 13:28.
No risk of running out seats on trains.

Thank you, I will reserve the seats today.
Looking forward to Stresa, Milan and Bergamo/Brescia!

I was in Stresa for 4 days in July. It's great. Plenty to do. Besides the islands, I would recommend the Funivie Del Lago Maggiore in Laveno.
Morning,
I reserved our tickets on Alibus, one less thing to stress about.
The Funivia looks like fun for some, but too scary for me! Thanks for the suggestion, though.

That Funicular is cursed. I wouldn't do it.

The Funivia from Laveno is not the same one where the accident was. It's absolutely worthwhile.
