We are booked for a wine tour in Siena the day after our stay in Florence. We need to be at the bus station in Siena for pick up no later than 9:00 am. I am worried about buying SITA passes the day before or day of and not having passage on the earliest buses. Any thoughts? Any help is greatly appreciated!
The bus is the 131R. Runs every 15-30 min. Check the schedule at the station on your arrival in Florence.
You have quite a few options to get there before 9:00....
You can buy your tickets the day before and give yourself the peace of mind about getting your seats but even if you don't it should not be a problem.
Confirm that you are being picked up at Via Tozze and take the express bus.
It's an hour and 15 minutes and the first bust leaves at 6:45.....
@Mack, I am just curious, where does one validate the bus ticket? On board the bus or before boarding the bus?
You will validate it in the bus with the driver. You'll notice (if you take the local bus) that folks get on and off as needed without showing tickets... don't worry about it. You are only responsible for yourself.
While in Siena try walking some of the side streets... you'll find the places where locals hang out and eat etc. Not only can you save some money but it's also a bit more interesting to watch the local laborers stop for their pasta and grapa lunch than to watch a bus load of tourists work through a 5 course lunch (at least to me).
Is your wine tour on a weekday or weekend? It makes a difference because the buses are much more frequent on weekdays. If it is on weekend, I would buy bus tickets the day before or go early to the bus station so you leave yourself plenty of time to get the tickets. I was stuck behind someone who took a lot of time at the ticket window, but I wasn't on a time schedule so it was OK to take the next bus.
Ashley,
I didn’t take this bus but I know this is a very popular day trip from Florence.
I’m wondering how crowded that early bus will be?
Have you considered spending the night prior to your wine tour in Siena?
When I stayed in Siena last September, I decided to visit San Gimignano (another popular day trip destination).
I purchased my bus ticket the day before. When I showed up at the bus stop the following morning, there were some folk who had wanted to take the first bus out but it was too crowded, so they had to wait for the next one.
Have a wonderful trip!
thank you everyone for your help!
