Bus from Florence to Siena - confusion! :)

Hello all,
I will be in Florence from Nov. 2 until Nov. 7 and would like to take the bus to Siena for a day -- I'm thinking maybe on Monday the 6th? I keep reading that the bus is both faster and a bit cheaper than the train, but I can't seem to find a bus schedule anywhere. Does anyone have recommendations or know which bus would be best (and how to get tickets)? Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi Christina, this should help. It’s the 131 bus, and it leaves from the bus station that’s very close to the main train station in Florence. Put in the departure as Firenze Santa Maria Novella. We walked over to the bus station in Florence when we arrived by train and bought bus tickets for the next day.

I liked that the bus will leave you off in Siena in town, so it was handier. We also had a hotel a few blocks from that bus stop.

If you take the train, the station is lower than town, requiring a steep hike or a cab to get to the Campo. Siena is a hill town. Bus is very convenient.

You will want to take the 131R (Rapido) bus to/from Florence. The 131 will take longer with more stops along the way. On the website provided by Jean under "lines and timetables" just put in 131R and you will get the complete schedule.
