Bus from Florence to Siena, but train back to Florence?

We are staying at the Glance hotel near the SMN train station. Plan on taking the 131R bus to Siena which picks us up near the station, but we can’t find a bus that brings us back to the same train station? The bus appears to come back to Florence at the Villa Constanza train station. Is this correct, if so we will probably just use the train to get back but appears to be a long walk to reach the train station in Siena.

Villa Costanza is the Flixbus stop (long-haul buses). The regional buses have the same stops in both directions.

How do I book a regional bus in both directions? We are definitely confused as it keeps showing us a bus station across the Arno in Florence. How can I find the schedule ?

You can find the 131R schedules at
www.at-bus.it

These timetables are valid until tomorrow so check for new timetables on 3/25/25.

Make sure you check the appropriate timetable depending on the travel day you want:

  • Feriale escluso Sabato = Weekdays except Saturday
  • Sabato = Saturday
  • Festivo = Sunday and holidays

You’ll want the following stops:

  • Firenze Autostazione
  • Siena - Via Tozzi

I’ve not taken this bus since I was traveling from Lucca to Siena (via train) so not sure how far in advance you’d need to book your tickets
Hopefully someone who has taken this bus will chime in.
.
I did take a bus from Siena to San Gimignano, from Via Tozzi, and bought my ticket the day before at the bus station.

Wishing you a great trip!

Edited to add…
Here’s more information about purchasing bus tickets.
You can now pay on board,
via the app, or at ticket office.

We have often taken the 131R to and from Siena/Florence. We usually buy our tickets the day before and we buy roundtrip tickets (e ritorno) so that we don't have to purchase twice.
